JOHN TALLEUR PRINT STUDIO ARTIST COLLECTIVE

The John Talleur Print Studio (JTPS) is the only community print shop in Kansas. Located downstairs at the Lawrence Arts Center, JTPS supports several printmaking techniques, including monoprint, relief, intaglio, and letterpress. JTPS is run primarily through a grassroots effort: Members of JTPS carry out the studio’s artistic initiatives, and is supported by the Lawrence Arts Center.

The mission of the John Talleur Print Studio is to inspire creativity - artistic, technical, and emotional by bringing the art of printmaking to community members and rofessional artists. Through its unique resources, JTPS provides a place to imagine new alternatives.

The equipment came as a bequest from noted printmaker John Talleur, professor emeritus at the University of Kansas. JTPS offers three presses: an original Sturgis; a Vandercook; and a Hoe. The state-of-the-art acid hood provides intaglio etching facilities. In addition, the size of the paper sink and number of drying racks make it possible to create large print editions.

To become a member of JTPS is $50 dues per year, plus $2 per studio hour or $60/month for unlimited access. Benefits include:

For a tour of the JTPS facilities, please contact the Arts Center at (785) 843-2787. To join, fill out a membership packet and card and pay your dues at the LAC front desk. All members are required to take a mandatory orientation from a JTPS member before using the studio. Independent use of presses and acid hood is limited to members with previous experience.
