Narrative Medicine is an emerging tradition which values the stories we tell about illness and health as key to deeper healing and greater meaning. Celebrating the release of Kansas Poet Laureate Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg's memoir, The Sky Begins At Your Feet, this weekend includes these free events:

1-3 p.m.: Imagination, Memoir & Place: Writing Ourselves Home: Community writing workshop open to all members of the community on a donation basis (to support Lawrence Arts Center).
3:30 p.m.: Working Recovery: Reflected Visions of Healing: Opening of art show curated by Carol Ann Carter, exploring recovery for body, mind, spirit, culture and our shared environment, featuring work by Carol Ann Carter, Marty Olsen, Judith Arnold, Ruth Bowman, Eric Conrad, Aimee Howard, and Marguerite Perret (refreshments provided).

3-5 p.m.: Narrative Medicine: How Our Stories About Illness Can Foster Healing And Community: Forum featuring Dr. Sharon Soule, LMH oncologist; Ursula Gilkeson, energy healer; Smokey McKinney, Native American writer; Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg; Linda Garrett, photographer and survivor; Carol Ann Carter, artist, moderated by Sheryle D'Amico, LMH Vice President.
7:30-9 p.m.: The Sky Begins At Your Feet: Book Party: A reading of Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg's memoir on breast cancer through connection to community and the earth, followed by reception.
