Printmaking Residency
The John Talleur Print Studio (JTPS) at the Lawrence Arts Center, is the only community print shop in Kansas. Its facilities support several printmaking techniques, including intaglio, monoprint, relief, silkscreen, and letterpress, and offer access to Sturgis, Vandercook, Hoe (Washington-style), and Gordon presses. The intaglio facilities include a state of the art acid hood.
In 2010, JTPS will offer one Printmaking Artist in Residence. The term of residency will begin in August 1, 2010 and end July 31, 2011. The program is designed to provide young printmakers with press and studio access as they make the transition from or between academic settings. A resident should be able to become involved in the LAC Education Department’s community serving youth and adults. Residents are expected to perform 12 hours per week of studio maintenance and teach one class per year. When teaching, the resident is asked to contribute to the curriculum for classes and be willing to collaborate with education staff. Additional teaching opportunities are available but not required. Residents will have an exhibition of their work in the Lawrence Arts Center Gallery. (dates TBA)
The resident will receive a $300 per month stipend for above mentioned duties and will have 24 hour access to studio, free use of all printmaking studio equipment, and use of other visual art facilities upon approval. Residents are responsible for their housing.
