Artist Louis Copt was born and reared in Emporia, Kansas. He graduated from Emporia State University in 1971 with a degree in art.
Copt began his career as a full time artist in 1984 after returning from a summer of study at the Art Students League in New York City. The focus for Copt's painting has been Kansas in general and specifically on the Flint Hills , the annual prairie burning and most recently, figurative painting and photography.
Louis has taught at the Lawrence Arts Center for over 12 years and has led travel and painting workshops to France, Spain and Italy. He has also taught classes at the University of Kansas.
