Lora Jost is an artist who creates in many different spheres. She teaches Sketchbook-Journaling and other classes at the Lawrence Arts Center, works in artist-in-residence programs, coordinates community projects, paints murals, makes commissioned art pieces, gives slide lectures, illustrates for diverse publications, and writes. She co-authored, with Dave Loewenstein, Kansas Murals: A Traveler’s Guide (2006, University Press of Kansas) .
Jost grew up in North Newton , Kansas . Her interest in making things goes back to childhood, when her mother made art materials available at every turn. Now she is doing that for her son . Jost received a B.A. in 1988 from Bethel College ( N. Newton , Kansas ), with additional college at The American University ( Washington , DC ) and the University of Kansas ( Lawrence ). She received an M.F.A. in 1992, with an emphasis in Nonstatic Forms, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Jost has lived and worked in Lawrence since 1996.
Jost is married and has one son. She enjoys hanging out with friends, reading, journaling, traveling, taking long walks, and volunteering in community groups that emphasize peace and economic justice.
