Artist's Statement
In my home hangs an embroidered wall hanging I designed containing the words of Robert Lewis Stevenson.
The world is so full of a number of things I'm sure we should all be as happy as kings.
These words sum up my approach to painting. I love going out into the world to paint the unique and beautiful things I see. I want others who couldn't be there at that particular moment or who had often passed that spot unseeing to share the joy of what I found there.
I grew up in Iowa and graduated from Iowa State College (now Iowa State University) with a bachelor's degree in Applied Art. For about three years after graduation I worked in the field of advertising art in Chicago. I have always loved painting and have taken classes in painting in the various places I have lived.
In 1969 my family moved to Lawrence. After our five children were grown I have had more time to paint. I prefer to paint outdoors and do so whenever possible. I paint with acrylic paints on canvas, usually with a palette knife.
I am a member of both the Lawrence Art Guild and the Topeka Art Guild. I participate in their shows and shows in surrounding communities and also have had many one-person shows in area restaurants, hospitals, retirement homes, libraries, etc.
Outdoor painting in Kansas is at its best in April and October. Among my favorite subjects are gardens, rural Kansas scenes and Colorado mountain scenes.
