Grace Carmody

Grace Carmody has been a professional designer and silversmith since 1976. Graduating from Kansas University with a BA and MFA, she taught classes at the university in the design department in metalsmithing, as well as at the Lawrence Arts Center in Lawrence.

Moving to Atlanta, GA in 1983, she started a class in jewelry design and silversmithing at a private art center in Atlanta, where she taught for 18 years. Returning to Lawrence in 2000, she now works exclusively from her home studio doing special commissions and silver works to be displayed and sold at the Lawrence Arts Center Gallery Shop.

Her work has been exhibited in over 100 exhibitions and at many galleries. It is included in collections in the United States and abroad. The Lawrence Arts Commission has also selected her for the designing artist for the Phoenix Awards 2004. Her designs are stylized contemporary concepts derived from forms found in nature, as well as mechanical geometric forms used in industrial fabrications. Materials used are sterling, gold, precious and semi-precious stones, and occasionally incorporating titanium, aluminum, copper, and bronze, wood, fossils, and lucite.
